H.E. Hubert KNIRSCH

German Ambassador to Georgia

Hubert Knirsch took up the appointment as German Ambassador to Georgia in September 2018. Previous to this he was head of the political section at the German Embassy in Moscow, Russian Federation, from 2014 to 2018. From 2011 to 2014 he served as the head of the division for international economic affairs at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. Hubert Knirsch worked as the chief of the office of former Federal President Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker also in Berlin from 2008 to 2011. In Warsaw, Poland, he served as the head of the political section of the German Embassy from 2005 to 2008. From 2001 to 2005 he served as a division head in the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. Prior to this he had various appointments to the Federal Chancellery (1998 to 2001) in Berlin, German Embassy Washington, USA (1995 to 1998), Federal Foreign Office in Berlin (1992 to 1995) and German Embassy Warsaw, Poland (1989 to 1992). He started his diplomatic career after having completed the Diplomatic Academy of the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin (1987 to 1989).
His academic education includes studies of Social Sciences (1981-83) and Public Administration (1984-87) at Konstanz University and studies of Political Sciences at Institut d’Etudes Politiques Paris, France.
Ambassador Knirsch is married with one child. He speaks German, English, Russian, French and Polish.
