SALOME ZOURABICHVILI was elected as the President of Georgia in November
2018. A member of the “Way of Georgia” Party, which she founded in
2006, she won election as an independent deputy in Georgia’s
Parliament in 2016. From 2010 to 2015, she led the UN Security
Council’s monitoring group on sanctions against Iran. Prior to joining
the UN, Zourabichvili was an associate professor of international
relations at Sciences Po in Paris. She was Minister of Foreign Affairs
for Georgia from 2004 to 2005. Zourabichvili began her career in the
diplomatic service of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between
1974 and 2004, she served in Europe, Africa, and the United States; at
missions to the UN, NATO, Western European Union, and OSCE; and as
ambassador of France to Georgia. Zourabichvili has degrees from Sciences
Po in Paris and Columbia University’s School of International and
Public Affairs.
