Dr. Peter Brookes is a Senior Fellow for National Security Affairs at the Heritage Foundation, a Washington, D.C. think tank. 

Previously, he was a Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense; on the staff of the Committee on International Relations in the U.S. House of Representatives; with the CIA; at the State Department; in the private sector; and, in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Commander from the Naval Reserves.

Dr. Brookes also served for a decade as a congressionally-appointed member of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.

He has a Doctorate from Georgetown University, a Master's from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor's from the U.S. Naval Academy. Dr. Brookes also has diplomas from the Defense Language Institute (Russian) and the U.S. Naval War College.
