Mr Vytautas Umbrasas, Vice Minister of National Defence
Mr Vytautas Umbrasas has assumed his current responsibilities in December 2016 and is in charge of Lithuania’s defence policy, international defence cooperation within NATO and the EU, as well as with NATO and EU partner countries. His duties include coordination of Lithuania’s participation in international operations, also in arms control mechanisms.
Mr Umbrasas is engaged in politics since 1988, when he became a member of the Reform Movement of Lithuania. His working experience in the areas of internal and foreign policy with main focus on defence includes different positions at the Lithuanian Parliament, Office of the President, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 1997-2004 Mr Umbrasas worked as an Advisor to the Minister of National Defence and in 2008-2012 as a Vice Minister of National Defence for Defence Policy and International Relations.
Vytautas Umbrasas holds a Master’s Degree in History. He also attended professional training programmes at George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies and NATO Defence College in Rome. Vice-Minister took part in numerous international conferences, such as 22th Economic Forum in Krynica, Georgia Defence and Security Conferences in 2012, etc.
