Major General, Vladimer Chachibaia, has been appointed as the Chief of the General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces from December, 2016.
Major General Chachibaia graduated from the United Military Academy, Tbilisi, Georgia in 1994. Furthering his education in the U.S.A, General Chachibaia has studied at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (2002-2003). He is as well a graduate of the U.S. Army War College (2007-2008).
He has served in command and leadership positions: the 25th Infantry Brigade; Reconnaissance Battalion; Special Forces Brigade; I Infantry Brigade; Land Forces; Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces; First Deputy Minister of Defense; Senior Counselor at the Embassy of Georgia (U.S.A, Canada and Mexico). Additionally he served as a Senior Military Advisor in the UN Assistance Mission in UNAMA, Afghanistan.
General Chachibaia commanded the 3rd Infantry Brigade; the Georgian Military Contingent in Iraq; the Head of J-3 Department of General Staff; Chief of Staff of Land Forces; Chief of the Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces; Rector of LEPL Davit Aghmashenebeli National Defence Academy.
His awards and decorations include the Medal for Combat Achievement; Medal "General Mazniashvili"; Medal for Meritorious Service at the Ministry of Defence of Georgia, II rank; Medal for Meritorious Service at the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, I rank; Commemorative Medal for International Military Cooperation awarded by Ministry of Defense of Mongolia; Letter of Appreciation by Special Representative of Secretary General for Afghanistan; The UN Special Service Medal awarded by UN Secretary General.
General Chachibaia is married and has three children.
