Georgian Defence and Security Conference has officially opened today. The first panel of the forum referred to secure Europe. Following the key-note speech by President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili and welcoming remarks by Defence Minister Irakli Alasania, the international conference continued with the panel “Secure Europe: Reshaping Security Paradigm and Seeking for New Approaches”. 

Minister of Defence of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis, Permanent Representative of Estonia to NATO Lauri Lepik, Associate Fellow of “Chatham House” James Sherr and U.S. journalist J.D. Gordon were the speakers of the first panel. Chairman of Atlantic Council of Georgia Vasil Sikharulidze moderated the panel.

The participants of the first panel discussed new architecture of European security. They also referred to the ongoing activities in the Ukraine. The speakers emphasized new realities existing after the Crimean occupation and annexation by Russia. The participants talked about their views concerning European security and the ways how to arrange new challenges in Europe.
